Fear
It is a definite emotion by which so many ailments are caused. Fear is quite common and unquestionably necessary emotional behavior in the civilized society. Fear is a need to our survival but can become a threat to our survival if exceeds the normalcy. Fear is experienced during a physical survival and psychological survival. The inbuilt mechanism is aroused when fear is sensed with the ‘fight, freeze or flight’ syndrome. This is automatic response of which does not necessitate cognitive control. Fear may arise in the course of self preservation but in relation to the self assertive principle.

Irrational fears
Fears of an “irrational” character can be seen most clearly when there is an absolute inconsistency between the fear and its purpose basis. E.g. Fear of failure is rational if one has not studied for the exam due to unpreparedness. Irrational fear is a person's chronic fear that he will fail no matter how well he has prepared.
