Depression is the most common mood disorder, reflects disturbances in mood. Mood means a long-drawn-out emotional nature that controls an individual’s viewpoint. common moods (sadness, grief, elation, etc.,) which are naturally transient, are a part of daily life, making the differentiation between “normal” and “abnormal” often hard to find out.
Clearly, there is a range of clinical depression, arraying from mild feelings of depression to severe thought of suicide. Mild depression is also known as Dysthymia. It is linked to physical changes in the brain, and associated to an imbalance of a type of chemical that transmits signals in your brain and nerves. These chemicals are called neurotransmitters.

Holistic perspective
According to our ancient sciences, the kapha people predominately get affected by depression. Since kapha people exhibit inexpressive tendencies their inertia acts as tamas and sets in as a pattern. This causes accumulation of stress causing sluggishness and increases the tamo gunas in an individual where the kapha element gets vitiated and subdues the pitta and vata element. Although the kapha people are highly prone to get depression, faulty lifestyles and thinking patterns can bring in tamas into other constitutions causing vitiation of their elements causing depressions.
