Recent studies show psychological factors can make people more likely to suffer physical illness, but cognitive behavioral therapy can help sufferers manage their conditions. People often pigeonhole diseases as being biological or psychological, but in fact they are often a complex mixture of both.

According to our ancient science the vitiation of vata dosha is the main reason for constipation. When vata gets disturbed the rectal passage and the anus sphincter muscles might become spasmed causing sluggish defecation. The doshas responsible for constipation are pitta and kapha can be too. Constipation experienced mostly in hot months is due to vitiation of the pitta dosha, described by dry stool. And in the constipation cause by vitiation of kapha dosha, it becomes painful to pass the sticky feces, because of the excessive mucus blocking the rectal passage.
